Violent Robbery Spree Hits City

A spree of violent robberies hit Coventry yesterday, with shops and clubs being targeted by armed crooks.

Two security guards were attacked in separate incidents at superstores in the west of the city.

Offenders made off with £19,000 in one of the robberies, while a guard was sprayed with CS gas in another.

A cellarman was beaten unconscious and tied up by robbers who raided the safe at a Coventry club early this morning.

And a man attacked a Coventry shop assistant yesterday before snatching money and phonecards out of a till.
