CRIMES, FIRES & ACCIDENTS
Coventry Club Worker
Beaten By Robbers
A
cellarman was beaten unconscious and tied up by robbers who raided
the safe at a Coventry club this morning.
The
20-year-old was still in Wyken Working Men’s Club in Ansty Road
when he heard a smashing sound at about 12.30am.
He
went to the door to investigate and was confronted by two
intruders who hit him on the head with an unknown object several
times.
They
ordered the victim to take them to the safe and bundled him into
the club’s office.
The
demanded that he open the safe and then hit him again. The man
fell unconscious and when he came round he was lying on his side
on the floor and was tied up.
He
managed to break free and raise the alarm, but the robbers had
long fled with what police describe as a “large amount of
money”.
They
were both wearing balaclavas, dark jackets and one had dark blue
jeans.
The
victim was treated at Coventry and Warwickshire hospital for cuts
and bruises. Any witnesses should ring 024 7653 9030 or 0800
555111.
