WARWICKSHIRE - OUR COUNTY 1998-2001
Prioritising

Our County contains nine priorities, each with a set of clear, measurable targets:

  • Improving Education and Opportunities for Young People
  • Improving Opportunities for People to Get Jobs
  • Reducing Crime and Anti–Social Behaviour
  • Improving the Environment
  • Improving the Independence and Quality of Life of Older People
  • Taking Action to Make People Feel Less Isolated or Excluded from Society
  • Improving the Health of the Community
  • Meeting Housing Needs
  • Providing a Fairer Transport System

In the main body of this document we spell out some key actions we intend to take to tackle these priorities. These will be reviewed each year, in consultation with residents, businesses and partner agencies.

delivering

Warwickshire County Council is committed to working in partnership with other local organisations, both in delivering services generally and in the delivery of this plan.

Over time it is hoped that many other organisations will join in with this approach and share the commitment to ‘Building a People’s Warwickshire’. This process has already started and the development of Our County is a further step towards ensuring the co–ordinated provision of services.

The Plan will take us into the new millennium, and is intended to run until 2001. That seems like a long way off at the moment and we are keen that the people of Warwickshire have the opportunity to measure our progress on an annual basis. Also we recognise that things can change over time and that by 2001 new priorities will have emerged as existing ones are achieved, the Plan will roll on beyond 2001 and will be reviewed and updated.

maintaining progress

The County Council is committed to demonstrating progress on Our County. We believe that the people we serve will want to see what progress we have made in achieving these priorities. So, at least once a year we will publicly report on our progress. Warwickshire County Council believes in openness and we will say what we have achieved and we will also what we have not achieved and the reasons why.

working together

Our County has originated from the County Council, and so many of the priorities may appear to relate to the work of the Council alone. We want to change this as many of the priorities are also cross–cutting, and will be achieved most successfully if we work together with other organisations.

Organisations such as Warwickshire Health Authority, District and Borough Councils, Warwickshire Constabulary, Community and Voluntary Sector organisations, The Chamber and the business community are all vitally important in the delivery of services to Warwickshire, and we will have a better chance of success if we pool our efforts.
