[21
DEC 00] COVENTRY AND WARWICKSHIRE PROMOTIONS NEWS
Acrobats To
Swing From Coventry Cathedral
A
unique set of acrobatic shows using Coventry's most famous building
are set to stun the crowds this New Year’s Eve.
Two
corde lisse, which means rope acrobatics, shows and a trapeze act
under the cathedral porch form part of the event's Circus Phoenix
show on Priory Street between 6.30pm and 8.30pm.
The
three acts have been brought together by event producers Coventry
and Warwickshire Promotions, along with main stage juggling and
acrobatic circus acts to form a unique show specially for New
Year’s Eve.
One
of the UK's best aerialists, Jamie Quarrell, will start the canopy
show using a rope hanging
from a rig between the old and new cathedrals. He will be followed by
French trapeze artist Meilissa Collelo's swinging trapeze act.
The
highlight of the canopy show will be a rare double act by Fly
Bionic, a partnership of Jamie Quarrell and Vicky McManus,
accompanied by a specially commissioned soundtrack by Coventry
composer Derek Nisbet.
Derek
Nisbet and Fly Bionic have collaborated on the project to produce an
original rope dance, accompanied by a unique piece of classical
music played live on violin and cello. Last year, Derek produced the music for the prelude to Ramon Kelvink's tightrope
walk.
Mike
Martins, Circus Phoenix director said:
"This
is a unique show which combines some of the best acts in the
business with one of the world's most unique buildings. The canopy
shows are a fantastic display of human skill and, combined with
original music and great lighting effects, promise to be
spectacular."
