Nuneaton
Boroughs chairman Phil Clayton today described as "rubbish - garbage"
suggestions that his football club was considering a link with nearby Hinckley United.
It had been suggested that the two clubs would share a new football stadium playing
home matches on alternate weekends. The towns share a common boundary on the edge of the
Warwickshire-Leicestershire border and the theory was that a new stadium could be built
midway between the two.
Clayton said:
"We are intent on finding land for a new stadium for our club alone. That is
proving difficult at present so in the meantime we are planning to improve our existing
ground at Manor Park in readiness for Conference League football should we win promotion
from the Dr Martens League this season."
There is every likelihood of that. Nuneaton are 18 points ahead of their nearest
challengers.
Last year they proposed building a new stadium and leisure centre on council owned park
land in nearby Greenmoor Road, but the scheme was rejected.
