No club surely can have had such a commanding lead at the top of
the Dr Martens League with so many games still to play.
Borough now are nineteen points ahead of their nearest rivals and showing no sign of
taking their foot off the accelerator.
They were so much in control in this match against fifth placed Ilkeston that their
goalkeeper Richard Williams did not have to make a save.
At the other end of the pitch Borough caused plenty of problems for the full stretch
home defence and the biggest surprise was that they did not score more goals. Anton Thomas
should have been on the scoresheet but he fluffed the easiest chance of the match.
Fortunately for Ilkeston their goalkeeper Chris Marples was at the top of his game but
he had no chance in the 35th minute when Boroughs defender Terry Angus
rocketed a fierce header into the net.
The result stretched Boroughs lead at the top with their main rivals unable to
match their consistency and now the championship is almost a foregone conclusion.
