Borough had an easier passage than many thought possible at Moor
Green especially as they field a side minus five first team regulars.
Anton Thomas snatched two goals while Gareth Jennings, Shaun Wray and Joey O'Connor
completed the demolition of the Midland Division outfit.
Manager Brendan Phillips took a risk in playing fourth choice goalkeeper Scott Furlong,
but the youngster rose to the occasion with a fine display which included two immaculate
second half saves.
The match was played in pouring rain but Borough ignored the conditions to achieve
total dominance. They took the lead in the 18th minute when Wray's centre was only cleared
as far as Thomas who responded by thundering in a volley.
Four minutes later Wray swept a pass out to Brett Healy wide on the right and his cross
was crashed into the net by midfielder Jennings on his first team debut.
Moor Green bounced back when Mark Shepherd forced the ball home in a goalmouth
scramble, but right on half-time Borough restored their two goals lead when Thomas and
Simpson combined before the former rifled the ball into the net from the edge of the
penalty area.
Wray and O'Connor scored second half goals before Stuart Hamilton scored the last goal
of the game for Moor Green.
Nuneaton Borough: Furlong; Healy, Gardner, Simpson, Ennis, Angus, Wray, O'Connor, Straw
(Lyons 59 mins), Thomas (Dyer 67) Jennings.
