Liverpool Will Pay £5m For Kirkland
Coventry
City goalkeeper Chris Kirkland could be on his way to Anfield in
a £5 million move.
It
is thought that Liverpool might move for Kirkland at the end of
the season with a deal that could be worth up to £8 million if
he gets full international honours.
Kirkland
has impressed many people this season when he filled in for the
injured Magnus Hedman. Former Sky Blues boss Ron Atkinson has
been among those tipping him to go to the top.
Houliier
has been looking to strengthen his squad further. Former
Leicester number two Pegguy Arphexad currently is Sander
Westerveld understudy.
Westerveld
has been criticised for his erratic performances, and Liverpool
have considered bidding for Newcastle’s Shay Given and West
Ham’s Shaka Hislop.
If
the move does go through it would make Kirkland the most
expensive teenager in Britain.
He
is the second keeper to be linked with a big money move away
from Coventry City, with Magnus Hedman being touted as a 3.5
million possible replacement for David Seaman at Arsenal.
Meanwhile,
John Hartson looks to be no closer to signing at Highfield Road
and is likely to play for Wimbledon in their FA Cup replay
against Notts County.
The
deal has stalled over a Coventry City player’s personal terms
with the Dons. It is thought that Cedric Roussel is being
swapped as part of the deal.
Wimbledon
manager terry Burton said:
"It's
to do with the player coming towards us rather than anything
else.
"Either
something will be resolved on that or Coventry will
restructure their offer. Then there might be something
possible but at the moment nothing is moving towards
that."
One
player definitely on the move is 20-year-old midfielder Daire
Doyle, who has moved to Kidderminster Harriers after failing to
make an impact at Highfield Road.
