WARWICKSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL NEWS
New Foot And Mouth
Case Discovered
Foot
and mouth disease has spread closer to Coventry, with a fresh outbreak
being discovered on a farm that borders a school on the outskirts of Nuneaton.
The
case at Top Farm in Higham Lane was revealed by officials from MAFF at the
weekend.
It is
the first case to be discovered in the county. An outbreak last
month at Lindley Hall Farm in Fenny Drayton is classed by the Government
as Warwickshire because of its postcode, but is in Leicestershire.
The
farm runs alongside Weddington Primary School. The children are being
allowed to go to school, but the playing fields have been closed as they
run alongside the fields.
The
farm is in the infected area marked since that discovery. All 300 cattle
and 250 sheep will be slaughtered as part of the measures to try and stop
the disease spreading.
The
infected area remains the same, and stretches down to the northern
boundary of Coventry and runs eastwards along the M6.
In
south Warwickshire Stratford is on the eastern edge of an infected area
that has been consolidated from several separate outbreaks and now goes as
far as mid-Wales.

All
footpaths in Warwickshire, and paths and parks in Coventry that are on the
city boundary have been closed for over a week.
It
is illegal to walk in areas where posters have been put up telling people
to keep out. In infected areas, such as Bedworth, Nuneaton and Atherstone,
dogs must be kept on leads as they can spread the virus.
