Coventry
and North Warwickshire Euro MP Christine Oddy will share her expertise with leaders of
Europes telecommunications industries at a discussion on the contribution they are
making to the continent's digital future.
Ms Oddy is currently working on a report into electronic commerce - the fast-growing
business of trading via the Internet - for the European Parliament's Legal Affairs
Committee.
On Wednesday 21 April she will join the industrialists at a dinner in Brussels hosted
by the European Policy Forum, an independent research institute.
The event will start with a review by Sir Iain Vallance, Chairman of BT, on the issues
for European and national policy makers created by the rapid convergence of the
telecommunications, information technology and audio visual industries.
It will be followed by a short discussion on the subject led by Dr Martin Bangemann,
the European Commissioner responsible for Industrial Affairs, Information and
Telecommunication Technologies.
Ms Oddy said:
"The pace of change in these industries is accelerating at an astonishing rate as
a result of new technologies being developed and becoming widely available and my report
should help towards establishing the legal framework for one vital area of this
change."
