Coventry and
North Warwickshire Euro MP Christine Oddy will be paying a visit to the City of London
Corporation -- the governing body of the capitals 'Square Mile' - on Monday as part of her
fact-finding mission for a key report she is writing for the European Parliament.
Ms Oddy has been appointed rapporteur by the Parliament's Legal Affairs Committee for
its report on the proposed Electronic Commerce Directive - the fast-growing development
often described as shopping on the web'. The report which will form the basis of
regulations to protect buyers and reputable traders from fraud.
On Monday (22 March) she will be meeting Tricia Drakes, Master of the Worshipful
Company of Technologies, the City's newest livery company along with representatives of
the Corporation of London, the Bank of England and major city institutions.
Ms Oddy said:
"Electronic commerce is a fast-growing business with increasing numbers of people
buying goods and carrying out financial transactions on the Internet. This report should
lead to users getting the protection they need from fraud and misrepresentation and the
assurance that their dealings are safe."
