Coventry
and North Warwickshire Euro MP Christine Oddy will give her support to the work of the
Coventry Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre when she attends the organisation's annual meeting
next week.
The Centre, which was founded by volunteers 20 years ago, provides a confidential
counselling and support service to women and girls who have suffered rape or abuse at any
time. It is jointly funded by Coventry Social Services and Coventry Health Authority.
Staff answering calls on the telephone helpline on Coventry 677229 are all professionally
qualified counsellors.
The women-only meeting on Tuesday (24 November) will also hear a speaker from the
Campaign to End Rape and, on a lighter note, be entertained to a performance on sitar,
harmonium and tabla from Harpreet, Harminder and Harsharan, members of the musical Bamrah
family.
Ms Oddy said:
"The Centre and its workers do a wonderful job in offering support and counselling
to the victims of rape and sexual abuse, who can easily feel alone at a very traumatic
time."
