Coventry and
North Warwickshire Euro MP Christine Oddy will be joining speakers at the Cuba Solidarity
Campaign reception and rally at next week's Labour Party conference in Blackpool.
She will join Labour MP Tony Benn and the former trade union leader Ken Gill, who
chairs the Cuba Solidarity Campaign, at the meeting which will focus particularly on
education as well as looking at the current situation on the Caribbean island.
Other speakers who will later take part in a discussion include Steve Sinnott, Deputy
General Secretary of the National Union of Teachers and Ivei Gonzalez Orlandi, from the
Federation of Cuban Students.
Ms Oddy said:
"I have always been very interested in Cuba and was very impressed when I visited
the country to see the enormous progress which had been made in education and tackling
illiteracy, which has now been almost totally eliminated."
