A
Hillfields primary school has become the first in the city to be awarded Eco status and
will be proudly flying their Green Flag tomorrow for doing their bit to protect the
planet.
St Benedicts RC Primary School in Leigh Street will be receiving the coveted
Green Flag today from the Tidy Britain group who launched the award a couple of years ago
to encourage schools across the country to develop a sustainable lifestyle. Schools have
to apply for the Green Flag every two years and are inspected by the Tidy Britain Group to
make sure they are meeting their environmental programme.
The Lord Mayor, Councillor Mrs Joan Wright and Consort Cllr Gordon Wright will soon be
on hand to meet with and congratulate the children on their achievement.
Head Teacher, of St Benedicts Mrs Perry said:
"The staff and children are delighted as they are the first primary school to
achieve this status in the city. The School Council have produced an Eco Code and have
helped to implement it through the school. The assessors were very pleased when the
visited the school and with the presentation given by the children using Powerpoint."
