Following in the footsteps of Rowan Atkinson, who starred
in the original West End production, Joe Pasquale takes on the lead role in the critically
acclaimed comedy play The Nerd written by American playwright Larry Shue and directed by
Andrew O'Connor.
It was an enormous hit for Rowan Atkinson in the mid-eighties and Joe Pasquale is
excited at being given the chance to appear in such a funny play of which Time Out wrote
"
.wonderful one-liners, splendid cameo roles ... this is a rib-shatteringly
funny evening".
A Nerd is a mixture of twit, wimp, wally and creep. Staid Willum is having a birthday
party. Rick, the Nerd, arrives in full Hallowe'en dress - four days late - and within
minutes manages to insult, sicken and bore the guests. Willum endures this because Rick
saved his life - and discovers that Rick is not what he seems and his reappearance stuns
us all.
Joe Pasquale is currently one of the top 'live' comedians, filling theatres throughout
Great Britain. He has starred in three Royal Variety Performances over the past five
years. He has made dozens of television appearances including his own 'specials'. Autumn
'98 saw his third successive video on sale and he has already earned a Platinum Retail
Performance Award for sales in excess of £1,000,000 from The British Video Association.
Regular theatregoers as well as Joes fans will delight in seeing him in this
outrageously funny play.
