Need to get rid of some excess energy? - then 'Burn It Up' with the cast of The
Belgrade Theatre's Acting Out project.
Follow the story of Michael and Helen and the young people they share their lives with
on a Coventry city estate. Witness how Michael copes with building pressure and a sentence
of sexist bullying. Meanwhile, one of Helen's pranks - devices used to relieve the
monotony and boredom of her young life - goes disastrously wrong. We are left wondering
'who are the real victims?'
'Burn It Up' is a play which has been devised by young people willing to examine some
of the difficult issues faced by their generation today. The often difficult subject
matter is handled with contagious energy, commitment and fun. With some of the most
popular contemporary tunes - including Bitter Sweet Symphony (The Verve) and Firestarter
(Prodigy) - it's definitely a show not to be missed.
Ticket prices - £4.00 1 £2.50 concessions
Background Information:-
The 'Acting Out' project is a new and exciting venture
which has been set up in partnership with the Belgrade Theatre and the local Education
Authority. With 45 young people from 17 different schools in Coventry, the scheme offers
young people the opportunity to experience what it is like to work in the theatre.
Through a number of different modules, covering different
styles of theatre, the young people will devise and perform their own shows, working with
professional writers and directors and if they wish, dancers and musicians. They work with
designers and set builders, learn to use the technical equipment, lighting and sound and
all other important aspects of theatre work - including Marketing and Front of House.
This two year work related experience with the Belgrade
theatre aims to increase the young person's self confidence and self esteem and works
towards a BTEC First Diploma in the performing Arts - so the young people are accredited
for all the hard work they put in. Very importantly, through the NVQ - Key Skills,
'Working With Others', the young people recognise and enhance their skills needed in order
to work effectively as a team.
