[13 MAR 01] CRIMES, FIRES & ACCIDENTS
Takeaway Staff Attacked By Youths

A 15-year-old boy was in custody today after a man working in an Indian takeaway was attacked with a wooden weapon.

The assault took place at Agra Fort in Holbrook Road, Rugby at 11pm yesterday.

Two offenders stood outside the takeaway and shouted racist abuse at staff inside the building.

They then walked in and became physically aggressive when the staff tried to escort them off the premises.

A weapon, possibly an old table leg, was produced, and the youths attacked a member of staff.

The 37-year-old victim was taken to Coventry and Warwickshire Hospital suffering from bruising and a broken nose.

He is said to be “satisfactory” condition, but has been detained while tests are carried out to make sure his injuries are not worse than originally diagnosed.

A 15-year-old youth was arrested sometime after the attack and was in police custody today awaiting interview.

Police are hunting a second offender, and urge any witnesses to contact them in confidence on 01788 541111 ext 3777.
