The
One And Only Jumpin At Jaks
Revellers
in Coventry will get the chance to see ‘The One and Only’ chart
topper of the nineties at a city nightspot.
Chesney
Hawkes, who was one of the first teenagers in British pop history to
have a debut solo single go to number one, is set to perform a full
live concert at Jumpin Jaks on 27 November.
Hawkes
topped the charts in 1991 with the hit tune ‘The One and Only’
which was taken from the soundtrack to the film ‘Buddy’s Song’
in which he starred alongside Roger Daltrey.
The
song became a teen anthem around the world and was knocked off the
top spot in the UK after five weeks by Bryan Adams’ ‘Everything
I do, I do for you’ which was number one for more than three
months.
And
Hawkes will treat Jaks to his legendary hit and several other songs
on the night, including his latest single ‘Stay Away Baby Jane’
which was recorded along with more new material in London and LA
last year.
Jumpin
Jaks manager Andrew Macleod says it promises to be another great
night at the SkyDome-based venue.
He
said:
“Chesney
Hawkes was an overnight success when he shot to number one with
‘The One and Only’ in the early nineties.
“It
is one of the first songs to be mentioned whenever someone is
listing the hits from the past decade as it was one of the most
popular songs with young people – most people can probably still
hum along to it today.
“He
has a bit of a cult status which is why he is selling out at
venues right across the UK.
“He
has been out of the public eye for several years now in this
country but he has been co-writing songs with artists right across
the board from Tricky to Caprice.
“He
has also written a lot of new material for himself which has been
given good press in the UK and the USA and I expect he will
perform some new songs on the night.
“Chesney
Hawkes promises to be a great draw and we are hoping for another
great night at Jaks.”
Tickets
are priced at £5 and are available from the Jumpin Jaks box office
or by calling 07000 35 36 37.
