Alice? Where The
*@&* Is Alice?
If
you live next door to someone called Alice you could be going to a
free concert in Coventry later this week.
Coventry
and Warwickshire residents will be checking out their neighbours in
an attempt to qualify for the free tickets.
Seventies
legends Smokie visit the Skydome Arena on Saturday, and managers of
the 4,000-seat venue have come up with a unique way to celebrate the
live performance of one of the decade's most famous songs.
The
first person who has a next door neighbour called Alice and brings
correspondence which shows the names and addresses to the Skydome
box office will be handed four VIP tickets for the event.
Arena
promoter Rod Gunner admits that the idea came about by accident but
is hoping there are some neighbours in the area who fit the bill.
He
said:
"We
were discussing the track and someone wondered out loud whether
there was anyone in the city who was literally 'Living Next Door
to Alice'.
"It
is a great song and we thought it would be good fun to make the
appeal - anyone called Alice will certainly be a popular neighbour
now.
"The
first person who comes to the box office with a letter showing
their name and address, and one that shows a next door address
with the addressee named Alice will get two pairs of tickets.
"As
well as Smokie, local band Swains are appearing at the opening
Sound of Skydome event so it should provide great
entertainment."
Living
Next Door to Alice was a smash hit for Smokie in the 1970s and then
hit the headlines again nearly 20 years later when it was
re-recorded with Roy 'Chubby' Brown adding his own distinctive style
to the lyrics.
