18-Year-Olds
To Be Let In To Ikon
Eighteen-year-olds
are to be allowed into a Coventry nightspot after management altered
their door policy following hundreds of letters from revellers.
Since
opening in 1999, the Ikon nightclub at SkyDome Coventry has only
been accessible to over 20s on Friday and Saturday nights.
That
meant 18 and 19-year-olds did not get the opportunity to visit the
1,800-capacity venue at weekends.
After
collecting the huge volume of feedback Ikon has now reviewed this,
and manager Ian Knight revealed that Friday nights would see a
policy change.
He
said:
"I
have been opening a steady stream of letters asking us to consider
lowering one of the weekend nights to over 18s as the people who
fall between legal drinking age and our 20-plus policy are left
with few places to go.
"Our
Diva nightclub is strictly over 25s every time it is open but we
like to think that we take public opinion into account when making
our decisions and that has led us to allow 18 and 19-year-olds
into Ikon on a Friday.
"SkyDome
has become one of the Midlands most popular nightspots and a lot
of that can be attributed to the fact that we offer something for
everyone.
"We
launched secure, alcohol free nights for younger teenagers after
being inundated with requests to do so and we also staged Salsa
nights for the same reason.
"Friday
nights in Ikon will now be accessible to anyone aged 18 and above
- hopefully this shows that we are prepared to listen to what the
Coventry and Warwickshire people want from an entertainment
complex."
