Leo Sayer To Sing In Coventry

Leo SayerSeventies idol Leo Sayer will make Jumpin Jaks regulars feel like dancing when he performs in Coventry next week.

He will be playing at the 900-capacity venue on 19 December in a festive treat for fans as he returns to favour.

As well as having a song in the recent blockbuster Charlie’s Angels, he has been lauded by the Sun, who have launched a Bring back Leo Sayer campaign.

Between 1973 and 1982 Sayer had two number one hits, achieved Grammy success, hosted his own BBC show and went on a sell-out world tour.

The artist, who was made famous by hits You Make Me Feel Like Dancing, The Show Must Go On, When I Need You and Long Tall Glasses, is now back in massive demand.

Leo, aged 52, said the appeal of Jumpin Jaks among the different age groups was a major factor in deciding to play at the venue.

He said:

"Dates like these are about entertaining and giving people the songs they want to hear, whether they are favourites from the first time round or whether they liked You Make Me Feel Like Dancing when it was back in the charts two years ago.

"Jaks encourages its audience to really enjoy themselves and that is what my songs have always been about - I am really looking forward to playing there.

"It is very gratifying to know that my songs have become so popular again and performing in such a lively venue so close to Christmas should produce an electric festive atmosphere."

Leo's appearance at Jaks continues a pledge made by the venue's management to try and bring current headline hitting artists to the city.

Jumpin Jaks manager Andrew MacLeod said he believe that Leo's new icon status among  younger generations will guarantee a diversity of ages in the audience.

He said:

"I think anybody who remembers Leo Sayer from the first time around will be delighted to hear that he is playing in Coventry - he was one of the biggest singer - songwriters of the 70s and 80s.

"He has also got a massive new following amongst the younger generations and has sold out some very big venues.

"We were very keen to secure a Christmas date with him because he puts on a great show and this will certainly set the fun atmosphere for the festive period."
