A Coventry entertainment agency is
making rapid progress towards putting the city at the top of the fashion stakes when it
comes to music.
Magnum Entertainments has announced that Garage legend Spoony will be following in the
footsteps of R&B king Trevor Nelson by appearing at SkyDome Coventry.
Spoony currently has a weekly three hour slot on Radio One with the
DREEMTEEM, regularly DJs in top London venues and has also just released an
album.
The 1,800 capacity Ikon Superclub will be the venue for the event, which will also see
MC Neat, who was involved in recent hit 'A Little Bit of Luck, come to Coventry on
16 May.
Magnum Entertainments partner Stavros Poulos is delighted that Spoony will be appearing
at SkyDome and believes the £40 million development is helping Coventry to become one of
the countrys leading music venues.
He said:
"Spoony is one of the most sought after, big name artists in the country at the
moment and for him to come to Coventry is superb for the city, and for SkyDome as a venue.
"The respect for Coventry has grown immensely and that is down to the buzz going
round the industry from artists who have been to Ikon.
"It means that avid music fans in the Midlands are now getting some top, top shows
close to home rather than having to travel half-way across the country.
"Garage music is hugely popular at the moment, that was shown by the song
Rewind which spent several weeks at number one, and Spoony is the top name in
the field.
"When Trevor Nelson came to SkyDome the combination of a top venue and a big name
artist meant that the tickets sold out very quickly and we are fully expecting that to
happen again."
Spoony follows not only Trevor Nelson but also Dave Pearce as top Radio One DJs
to visit Ikon and SkyDome general manager Ian Knight believes the club is now amongst the
most popular in the country.
He said:
"This is another big name event that Magnum are bringing to SkyDome and the
profile of the complex is being raised nationwide.
"I know that Magnum are selling tickets in Leeds, Nottingham and Leicester, which
were always previously seen as trendier places than Coventry to go at night.
"That balance has now been redressed and Spoonys appearance is another top
act to add a great list of artists who have already been to Ikon."
Tickets for the night are price at £7 with a £1 booking fee and can be purchased by
calling 07760 270534.
