A box office for the new
SkyDome Arena selling tickets for all events including ice-skating is
to be opened at a neighbouring supermarket.
A partnership has been formed
with the Co-op in Queen Victoria Road, Coventry in time for the
venue’s opening next month.
The 4,000-seat arena, which
will host major concerts, sporting events, conferences and
exhibitions, as well as being the city’s ice rink, opens for
business on April 15.
Management at the £7 million
development, run by Birmingham-based Planet Ice, have opened a box
office inside the Co-Op Superstore in Queen Victoria Road.
Simon Burnett, general manager
of the Arena, said the superstore was the natural location for the new
box office.
He said:
“We
got to know the Co-Op very well during construction and it just seems
the perfect place to create our first off-site box office. The store
has thousands of people through its doors every week and is very
convenient.
“We
have been inundated with requests for information. We open on April 15
with the Dairylea Dunkers basketball quarter-finals and skating will
start later that week.
“The
rink has been finished off with all the markings and logos this week
and looks fantastic. All it needs now is skaters!”
Steve McConville, manager of
the Queen Victoria Road store, said it was the first time the Co-Op
had entered such a partnership.
“The
SkyDome Arena is going to prove a major attraction both nationally and
regionally and hopefully there will be spin-offs for other local
businesses. We are next-door neighbours and are really in the ideal
spot for customers.
“Even
when the workmen were fitting out the box office, a huge number of
customers wanted to know when they could buy tickets. We obviously
hope it will bring considerable numbers of new customers through our
store.”
