Practice Welcome Mat Rolled Out For Final Time
A
course dedicated to showing people in Coventry how to give a
proper welcome to visitors to the city will be giving its final
grin at the weekend.
Coventry
Welcomes You With Pride has been running as a free one-day
customer care and Coventry product knowledge course for the past
18 months.
The
last and largest group of delegates on will be finding out about
all things Coventrian on Sunday Coventry University's
TechnoCentre.
The
44 course delegates are all cab drivers from Coventry firm City
Cabs.
Taxi
drivers have been a specific target group for the course, which
has seen almost 1,500 front-line staff take part. It has been
funded by a £133,000 grant from the European Social Fund.
Other
people encouraged to take part have been in the hotel industry,
and any other trade which involves giving a welcome to people
arriving in the city.
The
aim has been to make sure they all know of its hidden treasures
so they can pass information on to tourists.
City
Cabs chairman Arif Khan, said:
"We
realise that as taxi drivers we are sometimes the first people
to welcome visitors to our city.
As Coventrians we have a natural pride in our city and
want to pass that on to visitors and advise them on places to
visit.
“We
are eager to learn the best possible way to pass that
information on."
The
course incorporates nationally-recognised Welcome Host training,
and covers customer care, including topics such as creating the
right impression and dealing with difficult situations.
It
also touches on “selling” the area and the importance of
being a Coventry Ambassador.
Project
Executive, Bally Bains said:
"I've
been really pleased with the success of the campaign and to
get 44 black cab drivers on the last course is a real
achievement.
“All
the course delegates have been really enthusiastic and taken
away a greater knowledge of their city and a real sense of
pride for Coventry."
