[20
OCT 00] COVENTRY AND WARWICKSHIRE PROMOTIONS NEWS
Hail A New Writer At The Hall
A
former social worker who turned to writing when she had to give
up work to care for her mother will be on the panel for next
month's Writers at the Hall event in Coventry.
Georgie
Hale, will be talking about her first novel Tread Softly, a
psychological thriller set on a fictional university campus.
She
will be appearing alongside pop guru Pete Waterman at St Mary's
Hall on Wednesday, 15 November at 7.30pm at the event organised
by Coventry and Warwickshire Promotions, in partnership with the
city's Library Service and Waterstone's bookstores.
The
third writer for the evening will be announced shortly.
Married
with two daughters and two grandchildren, Georgie Hale also
worked as schools liaison officer for the University of Warwick
before becoming a full-time carer. Her second novel, Without
Consent, is due out next year.
She
said:
"I'm
keen to be part of events like this in Coventry because I'm
committed to the idea of making people realise that things
don't just happen in London.
“It's
a way of showing that you don't have to be based in London and
know the right people to get a book published.
“I
thought that before it happened to me and I'm looking forward
to giving others some encouragement."
This
is the fourth Writers at the Hall evening to be held in St
Mary's Hall. Previous guests have included Lord Hattersley,
Orange Prize-winning novelist Linda Grant, the historian Alison
Weir and Sue Townsend, creator of Adrian Mole.
Tickets
for the event, which includes a free wine reception and
three-course dinner, are £20 a head. They are available from
Coventry's Tourist Information Centre in Bayley Lane on 024 7622
7264.
