Jazz At The BelgradeCoventrys Belgrade Theatre will be joining the line-up of venues
for the citys international jazz festival in August.
The 800-seater theatre will host at least one major concert
during the five-day festival, which runs from 24-28 August. Details will be announced
later.
The theatre joins the citys Hotel Leofric and an
outdoor stage in historic Castle Yard as so far confirmed venues for the festival, which
is put together by a group of local jazz promoters and enthusiasts, co-ordinated by
Coventry and Warwickshire Promotions.
David Beidas, the Belgrades general manager, said:
"Were delighted to be part of the jazz festival
again and look forward to hosting some of the top names in the jazz world".
Last years festival, which built on the work of volunteers
over previous years, featured Jimmy Smith, godfather of the Hammond organ, Georgie Fame,
Martin Taylor, Annie Whitehead and Claire Martin, among many others.
Bob Marriott, who chairs the festival organising committee,
said:
"Were keen to build on the success of the
99 festival, which drew jazz fans from all over Britain and from as far afield as
Norway into the city. Well shortly be in a position to begin announcing the line-up
and we can promise some very big names."
