COVENTRY AND WARWICKSHIRE PROMOTIONS PRESS RELEASE
Godiva Weekend '99 - Live and FreeIt's
bigger than last year, it's busier and it's bolder. But it's still FREE.
Godiva Weekend '99 bursts into life in Coventry's
War Memorial Park over the weekend of 4-6 June with a monster programme of performances
and attractions running right through from teatime Friday to Sunday dusk.
A celebration by and for the people of Coventry and
Warwickshire, it's more than anything a great weekend out for all the family.
More than 20 hours of live bands, led by dance masters 808
State, a two-day history fair, some of Europe's best street entertainers, writer's talks
and bat walks, 'groovy movies' and farm animals - all this and Lady Godiva too, heading
the historic foot procession that bears her name.
For the first time the festival plays host to performers
from three of Coventry's 26 twin cities, Jinan in China, Dresden and Kecskemet in Hungary.
Coventry being the home of the motor industry there's a
motorcade too, put together by Jaguar and Peugeot, plus craft markets, kids games,
greenspace and fairgrounds galore.
Principal sponsors Peugeot lead a group of supporting
companies which include Jaguar, Marconi Communications, Marks and Spencer, HSBC and Focus
Housing.
Rae Hoole, Head of Events for Coventry and Warwickshire
Promotions, said:
"The really special thing about the Godiva Weekend is
that it has something for everyone, whatever their age. This year's event is bigger and
broader that the 1998 weekend and we aim to keep building it in the years to come."
