Twenty four of the world's leading speedway riders will battle for glory in the Grand
Prix roadshow at the refurbished Coventry Stadium tonight.
Five British riders, four Swedes, four Australians, three Danes, three Poles, two
Coventry-based Americans and representatives from Hungary, Italy and the Czech Republic
will be on parade before a bumper crowd at the Rugby Road circuit.
The showpiece event is the culmination of months of hard work by the Coventry Stadium
staff who hope their new banked bowl will be the perfect setting for one of the major
events in the speedway calendar.
Reigning World Champion Greg Hancock can see his title slipping away from him and he
goes into the Coventry event knowing he must win to leave any chance of retaining his
title.
Current Grand Prix leader the Swede Tony Rickardsson appears to have an unassailable
lead however with half the Grand Prix events completed and he is most people's bet to take
the World Crown.
