The
Rugby Lions today confirmed a fixture against the Portugese national squad for Sunday 22
November, kick off 5pm.
A Lions Development 15 team will take on the Portugese full national side who are using
this game as a preparation for their world cup qualifying matches against Scotland and
Spain at Murrayfield the following week.
Portugal will be based at Warwick University where they will be training with input
from local coaches and RFU Youth Development Officer Ian Bletcher who also is part of the
coaching staff at Rugby Lions.
Realist about their chances against Scotland, Portugal are confident that they can beat
Spain and thus qualify for the first time for the 1999 World Cup in Wales.
Kick off is at the new time of 5pm with admission through the turnstyles at £3 per
person, free to children and club season ticket holders.
It will be an ideal opportunity for the people of Rugby to see an exciting
"running Style" of Rugby.
