The Lions continue to claw their way up the league table but
though this margin was a comfortable one, it was still a scrappy affair.
Rugby outscored the visitors by four tries to one, but seldom reached top gear and
suffered through a string of penalties against them.
They were in front within five minutes through a pushover try when Fylde were forced to
conceded a five metres scrum. No. 8 Chris Tarbuck got the touchdown and Martyn Davies
converted.
Matt Tetlow responded with a drop goal for Fylde, but Lions restored their grip when
the second row Matt Field crashed over from a line out.
Alun Peacock kicked a penalty for the visitors, but shortly before the interval Mark
Ellis sprinted home for a second unconverted try for the Lions.
Davies increased the margin with a huge penalty goal from half way in the first minute
of the second half and though Peacock replied with a penalty goal it was only a temporary
hiccup in Rugby's progress.
After two pushover attempts they switched the ball wide for Eddie Saunders to score
near the posts to leave Davies with a simple conversion.
Davies added another penalty near the end, before Fylde's fly half Ian Barclay scored
their only try which Peacock converted.
