Lions Start With New Faces

Rugby Lions, who were promoted to the Allied Dunbar Premiership II after finishing fourth last season, include four new names as they start their campaign at home to Blackheath.

The backs have a familiar look with Denzil Evans, veteran Eddie Saunders, To’o Vaega and skipper Adrian Gilooly all still at the club from last season.

Vaega, who has won 99 caps for Western Samoa, will face the Londoners but then flies off to play in his country’s World Cup qualifying games over the next few weeks and misses several important league matches.

Jasnikowksi, a former Leicester centre, comes in for his debut behind Dan Bailey. Prop Jim Wingham is another new recruit to the club along with Richard Kinsey.

Thirty-four-year-old Kinsey is the Lions’ prime catch of the summer. He has played over 70 league games for Wasps and toured Australia with England A in 1993. He is currently the rugby youth development officer for Buckinghamshire and will provide much needed know-how at the higher level.

Blindside flanker Alwyn Davies is another exciting new addition. He has played for Wales under-21s and Welsh students.

RUGBY LIONS:
Evans, Saunders Vaega, Gilooly, Jasnikowski, Morgan, Bailey, Rees, Burdett, Wingham, Field, Kinsey, Davies, Thompson, Withers.
