There was only one point between the teams at half-time but
Coventry were in unyielding mood and stormed through for their fourth successive victory
to move into third place in the league.
They raced to thirty points and had the game well won before the London club responded
with a late converted try. Steve Gough, Coventry's fly half took his season's points total
past the century mark and ended the match on 108 after kicking two conversions and two
penalty goals.
Coventry scored four tries after going behind in the early skirmishes into a strong
wind. Blackheath kicked an early penalty goal but Coventry struck back with a well worked
try from a close range line out which ended with Richie Robinson scoring under the posts.
Gough converted to reach his 100 points for the season.
Coventry repeated the dose from another line out when skipper Julian Horrobin crashed
over, but Blackheath's full back Aitken kicked his second penalty before Howe scored an
unconverted try.
But with the wind behind them, Coventry swiftly gained control of the game. Robinson
raced in for his second try, Gough converted from the touchline and kicked two penalty
goals before Derek Eves capped the display with a try of his own.
It was only then that Blackheath added to their score, Aitken converting a try by
Griffiths.
