Former Coventry Blaze ice hockey star, Les Millie, will be making
a return appearance for the team for the Best of British match
against Milton Keynes Kings on Thursday.
The talented Scot joined the Blaze in their first year
(1996-97) and formed a devastating line with Steve Chartrand and Luc
Chabot, scoring 49 goals and 78 assists in just 59 games that season
in the Premier Ice Hockey League (the pre-cursor of the Findus
British National League).
Millie retired at the end of that year but agreed to return at
Christmas the following season to help the club out in their
challenge for the English Championship. He resumed his partnership
with Chartrand and Chabot to amass 51 goals and 68 assists. Despite
playing only a season and a half, these totals make Millie the
Blaze's all-time 4th highest scorer.
In addition to his scoring ability, Millie is also a determined
player with a strong desire to win. He is also the Blaze's all-time
6th leading penalty minute taker.
Millie started his career in Fife and played for the Flyers from
1987-1992 before moving to Sheffield to join the Steelers for three
immensely successful years, scoring 152 goals for the Steelers in
the old Premier League. He returned to Fife for 1995-96 and then
moved south to join the Blaze.
In addition to the return of Millie, the Blaze will be guesting a
number of young British players to make up the squad for the Best of
British, including two youngsters from Sheffield Steelers, Keith
Leyland and Steve Dacombe.
The game will be the team’s first in this year’s Best of
British competition and takes place on Thursday 20 December at the
Skydome Arena in Coventry. Face Off 7.30pm. Special admission prices
apply of £4 for adults and £1 all concessions. |
