Schools Push Can Face-off To A Blazing Start
A
cancelled fixture threatened to ruin the launch of a major
marketing campaign by Coventry Blaze, but a friendly has been
arranged in its place.
The
home match against Peterborough had been scheduled for this
Saturday, but the game was called off at an awkward time for the
ice hockey side.
The
Blaze are using the half-term week to encourage youngsters to
take an interest in the sport, and faced being without a
fixture.
But
a game, against Slough Jets, has now been earmarked for Sunday.
It was originally to be a British National League match, but
following intervention from the league, will now be an
exhibition match.
A
promotion had been set up with 13 schools in the city as part of
the Blaze Schools Programme, and club bosses have said that they
will now be able to honour that commitment.
Due
to the late change the game will be offered to season ticket
holders as a "bonus" game. Face-off remains at 6pm and
the Arena doors will open at 5pm.
Operations
Director, Grant Charman said:
"It
is unfortunate that there has been some confusion over this
game. The Jets have agreed to come to the Skydome at very short
notice and we really are very appreciative of that.
“The
game will be an exhibition match and I'm sure that both teams
will appreciate the chance to play hockey without the pressure
of a league game.
"We
are expecting a big crowd due to the start of the schools
programme and I would urge everyone of our supporters to come
along, I think it will be quite a party atmosphere and should be
a great nights' entertainment.
“We
are hoping that Sunday will be our biggest crowd, so far, and
the atmosphere should be fantastic.”
