OCT 99] LEAMINGTON HOCKEY CLUB RESULTS
Saturday 2 October 1999LEAMINGTON 1ST XI 3 PERSHORE 1 ST XI 5
Defensive lapses and poor finishing cost Leamington (but not Spa) 1st
XI dearly as they were defeated in the opening game of their league campaign against
Pershore. Pershore raced into an early 2-0 lead and although Leamington pulled one back
from Richard Greenslade following a defense splitting pass by Rob Murdoch, they found
themselves 4-1 down at half time.
Leamington started the 2nd half brightly and were rewarded with
a goal from a mis-hit shot by skipper Gareth Baber. Pershore soon re-established their 3
goal lead, against the run of play, when they scored from a penalty corner. Although
Leamington continued to press forward with both Steve Compton and Window Warm Man of the
Match Richard Gibson prominent, they only managed to pull one back through Colin Street
and Pershore hung on for victory.
PERSHORE 2ND XI 2 LEAMINGTON 2ND XI 3
A below par Leamington 2nd's clinched a 3-2 away win over Pershore thanks
to a superb late goal from Ross Woodward. A goal and an assist earned Lee Foster the Man
of the Match award on his debut. Brendan Farmer completed the scoring
for Leamington.
LEAMINGTON 3RD XI 4 ROLLS ROYCE 1
Leamington 3rd XI marked their first league game with a
convincing victory against a 10-man Rolls Royce side. Leamington dominated and created
numerous chances in the first half but fell behind to a goal scored on a rare attack by
the visitors which was the only scoring in the half.
A rousing half time team talk by skipper Gin Lal resulted in a more
purposeful Leamington performance in the second half and they soon equalised through Nick
Johnson. Leamington continued to create chances and the floodgates opened in the last ten
minutes with further goals by Nick Johnson, Chris Lowe and a superb effort by Man of the
Match Gavin Brown rounded off the scoring.
