Premier Division clubs Nuneaton Borough and Atherstone United and
Midland Division club Racing Warwick had no matches at the weekend. Bedworth United, also
in the Midland Division, were scheduled to play Evesham, but the match at Bedworth Oval
was postponed through a waterlogged pitch.
The only local team in action was VS Rugby, who must wish their match too had been a
victim of the weather.
They went down 3-0 at Blakenall after being a goal down at the interval.
Yet the scoreline did not reflect Rugbys part in the match. The opening goal was
the result of quick thinking at a free-kick. The set piece was quickly taken and the ball
reached striker Jason Rhodes who scored with a low drive.
Rugby should have draw level in the first half however when Ashley Warner cut the ball
back for Brian Agar, but the new man, signed from Racing Warwick, blazed over the bar.
John Muir extended the lead two minutes into the second half, but Rugby still had a
chance to get back into the match when Warner dribbled around the goalkeeper only to shoot
over the empty net.
Rhodes sealed the victory four minutes from the end with a fierce shot into the roof of
the net after a corner kick was partially cleared.
