Shepshed always created the
better chances but there was never much between the sides and Rugby could have claimed
some reward from a scrappy match.
Ashley Warner posed the greatest danger to Shepshed, but Robert Wood kept Rugby in the
match with a string of saves.
He was finally beaten in the 57th minute when after no fewer than three goal line
clearances the ball eventually reached Pat Clarke who lashed it home from six yards out.
There was almost a last minute equaliser for VS but the diving goalkeeper cut out a
cross which would have left Warner with a simple tap in.
