A 24th minute goal by Blakenhall's Michael Williams settled this
scrappy encounter.
Williams leaped unmarked to head in Les Palmer's free kick and it turned out to be the
only goal of the game.
The visitors dominated the first half when Rugby's only goal attempt was a powerful
header by Paul John, which Blakenhall's goalkeeper Matt Lowe saved.
VS began to put their game together after the break and Ashley Warner almost equalised
by his effort was hooked off the goal line with six minutes remaining.
Jason Rhodes should have put the game beyond doubt when he sprinted past three VS
defenders, but then fired over the target with only the goalkeeper to beat.
