VS Rugby manager Martin Sockett has had his hopes of a solid
squad wrecked by injury, work and other commitments as he prepares his side for the home
game with Blakenhall.
Sockett has been trying to keep a tight-knit group of players together to foster team
spirit but those hopes have gone out of the window this week.
Centre half Simon Williams is out because of work commitments, as is midfielder Jamie
Lenton. Strikers Ian Scott (hamstring) and Matty Owen (thigh) will both be missing while
midfielder Richard Hamer is unavailable.
That means recent signings Chris Evans and Danny Finlay could make their first starts
since moving to the club.
Evans is a teacher at Rugby School and occasionally has to work on Saturdays so
Sockett may have to leave selection until the last minute.
"It has dashed out plans, but that sometimes happens at this level. Our main aim
concern has to be converting chances. We lost 2-0 against Bedworth but created enough
chances to win two games, never mind just the one. That is something we have to put right.
"Blakenhall are ahead of us by two points, but we have played two games more so it
is vital that we win."
