The first of four meetings between these sides during November,
produced a goal glut and it needed a strike by Robbie Beard to finish off the scoring for
Bedworth five minutes from time.
Rugby appeared ready to run riot after scoring twice in the first five minutes, but
United clawed their way back three times in the match and a draw was a fair result.
VS striker Ashley Warner bundled the ball into the Bedworth net after only two minutes
when goalkeeper Glover could only push Lenton's centre against a post.
Defender Richard Hamer headed them further in front three minutes later again from a
cross by Lenton.
Bedworth appeared to be on the floor but they picked themselves up to pull a goal back
after 18 minutes. Beard delivered a centre which fell to Christy McKenzie and he stabbed
home from close range.
United were level after 32 minutes when Jai Stanley curled in a superb goal from
fifteen yards.
Rugby squeezed ahead seven minutes from the interval from the penalty spot after Scott
Machin was tripped. Ricky Smith scored from the spot.
But in a see-saw match Bedworth again equalised five minutes into the second half, when
Stanley again produced a superb shot this time from 30 yards.
But the match still held a few surprises. Smith scored his second penalty when John
Halford was controversially penalised, but justice was done when Beard made it 4-4 by
rifling home five minutes from time.
