Martin
Bewell has quit as manager of troubled Dr Martens League outfit Racing Club Warwick.
Bewell, a former assistant boss at Evesham, decided to resign after watching his side
lose 6-1 at Stafford Rangers last night.
The Jaguar employee said that he was having to do longer shifts at work and could not
see himself improving the club.
Bewell took over at Warwick just three weeks before the season started and was forced
to build his team as the campaign progressed.
He did offer to resign earlier in the season but the board talked him in to staying on
in the job.
He was confident the clubs fortunes would pick after he signed experienced Alex
Irvine as his assistant but they are 11 points behind the third from bottom club and their
next game is against table-topping Clevedon.
Club secretary Robin Lamb said:
"We are very disappointed. I had spoken to Martin before the game and knew that he
was going to go.
"I think work had a lot to do with it. He was having to do more hours and that
increased workload made it harder. Its a great shame Martin is one of the
nicest men you could wish to meet in the game.
"Keith Billington will take over team affairs. He has done it before, is a past
chairman and has had most other jobs this will be another for him."
