Racing Club Warwick produced on of their best displays of the
season to set up a fine first leg lead in the Dr Martens Cup.
Martin Bewells men, struggling near the foot of the Midlands Division, cast their
league woes aside as they raced into a convincing first half lead.
Recent signing Quentin Townsend opened the scoring after 18 minutes but had striker
Robbie Ellison to thank for his goal. Ellison thumped a header against a post and Townsend
was able to put the rebound away.
Then, midway through the half, Stuart Clarkes free kick was flicked on by Ellison
and deceived the Rangers keeper as it flew into the net.
Rangers reduced the deficit straight from the re-start with a move involving former
Coventry City midfielder Dean Emerson. He collected a lose ball and fed Richard Mitchell.
His shot was kept out by Racing keeper Richard Anstiss, but Tony Eccleston put the rebound
away.
But Warwick restored their two goal advantage when sub Gary Piggott scored with his
very first touch.
