Borough Set For Win RecordNuneaton Borough
will equal their best ever start to a season if they beat Gloucester in their next game.
The Borough have set off to a whirlwind start in the
Dr Martens League Premier Division by winning their first six matches. One more victory
and they equal their record start of seven straight wins in 1951-52 in the Birmingham
Combination.
But their manager Brendan Phillips is anxious to keep
everyone's feet on the ground:
"Someone asked me what it is like to be five points
clear at the top of the table and my answer was that it is a lot better than being five
points adrift at the bottom.
"I am not interested in that record. I know it is a
football cliche but we are taking one match at a time. This start is down to hard work by
a lot of people.
"People are patting me on the back now because I
happen to be the manager, but if we lose five on the trot I will get the stick. Let's just
say I am enjoying it at the moment.
"I am warning the players that every team in the
league will be shooting at us. We have to be professional enough to go about things in the
right way, and hopefully we can keep on playing in the same vein."
Nuneaton have another match on Tuesday evening when Kings
Lynn are the visitors to the Manor Park Ground. Borough have already beaten them away from
home this season, but Phillips says:
"They will be tough because they will want to gain
revenge for that defeat. It has been a tough old start because we have played against
teams who are expected to finish in the top six and there are more top teams coming up
against us over the next few weeks."
