VS Rugby are
sweating on the fitness of five first-teamers ahead of their FA Cup trip to Sutton
Coldfield.
Manager Martin Sockett had to prepare the team at last nights training session
with Gary Smith (hamstring), Richard Hamer (dead leg), Phil Murphy (calf), Liam
ONeill (ankle), Kieren Sullivan (calf) all in the treatment room battling to be fit.
Sockett took heart from the way his side fought back to win a point at home to Hinckley
on Monday when former Coventry City apprentice Jamie Lenton headed them level deep into
injury time.
Sockett said:
"We shot ourselves in the foot going behind in the first place. They created very
little against us and we had two chances to clear the ball before they scored.
"But after that we did keep battling and that was good. In the end there were
three queuing up at the far post but Jamie was the one who stamped his name on it by
scoring."
Sutton have had a reasonable start to their season. They lost 4-0 at Newport on the
opening day but bounced back to win their next two games before drawing against Wisbech on
Monday night.
Sockett added:
"It will be a hard game and that first win has proved elusive, but we are going
there very confident and knowing that we are capable of getting a result."
VS will be up against their former defender Tom McGinty who was, ironically, a target
for Sockett in the close season.
