Non-League Results & NewsKings Lynn (2) 2 Nuneaton Borough (2) 4
[DR MARTENS PREMIER LEAGUE]
Nuneaton Borough went joint top of the Dr Martens Premier League with a stunning 4-2
victory over a powerful Kings Lynn side last night.
Two-goal Barry Williams supplied the inspiration, but the victory owed much to a solid
all round team performance.
Brendon Phillips' outfit showed tremendous attitude and fighting spirit to come away
from East Anglia with the points which lifted them to the top of the league.
The teams were level at 2-2 at the break. Phillips put Boro in front against the run of
play but Lee Cotterill wiped it out with a double-strike. Malcolm Christie, who was again
the target of watching scouts, levelled it for Borough just seconds from the interval
however with a coolly taken equaliser.
Borough took control in the second half and after Williams had restored their lead,
Kevin Wilkin, on as substitute for Christie, scored the fourth goal in the last minute.
Bedworth United (0) 0
Wisbech Town (0) 2
[DR MARTENS MIDLAND LEAGUE]
Bedworth United lost their second match of the new season by 2-0 at home to Wisbech
Town last night and manager Billy Hollywood admitted: "We threw it away."
He said:
"We defended well for most of the game but we shot ourselves in the foot by
gifting Wisbech their first goal.
"After that we never looked like getting anything out of the game and it was poor
performance."
There seemed to be no danger in the 57th minute when Lee Stephenson crossed the ball
for Wisbech, but it eluded everyone in the penalty area and trickled over the goal line.
Bedworth conceded a second goal well into stoppage time when Keeble converted Munns'
pass.
Bloxwich Town (0) 1
VS Rugby (0) 1
[DR MARTENS MIDLAND LEAGUE]
VS Rugby were on the way to their first victory of the season in Dr Martens First
Division but they conceded a last gasp equaliser and finished 1-1 at Bloxwich Town.
VS squandered several chances in the driving rain but finally broke through in the 62nd
minute when Ashley Warner fastened on to Phil Murphy's cross, held off a challenge and
slid a low shot into the net.
Jamie Lenton then missed a close range chance to put them further ahead. It proved to
be a costly miss because Bloxwich won a free-kick in the last minute and Lee Hughes drove
the ball into the net from the edge of the penalty area.
