Bedworth United
have signed Frederico Ardiles, son of the eighties Argentina and Spurs legend Ossie.
Frederico, a Film and Literature student at the University of Warwick, was just three
weeks old when his father signed for Spurs and has lived all his life in London.
Freddie, as he is known, said:
"Dad has never really been supportive of my football career, he has always pushed
me academically. I would not mind being a professional footballer, but if not I shall do
something in films."
His father was one of many professional footballers who appeared in the film 'Escape to
Victory' about a prisoner-of-war camp. What did he think of his dads performance?
"I thought it was a wonderful acting performance," he replied with a grin.
Ossie Ardiles is currently out of work after resigning from his last football job in
Japan. His other son, 24 year old Pablo plays for Hoddeston Town. Both boys are
midfielders like their father.
Freddie says:
"I asked the university football trainer if he could find me a semi-professional
club and he came up with Bedworth United. They seemed to be just the club for me, so
signed. I only played a few minutes in the reserves against Rushden & Diamonds on
Saturday but I hope to play a full game this week."
He has been back to Argentina only half a dozen times - the latest being earlier this
year when his mother and father celebrated their silver wedding anniversary.
