United were far superior to their lower league opponents, but
they did not convert their dominance into goals.
Cheslyn Hay were under pressure from the first whistle but their goalkeeper Chris Wood
was in sparkling form and produced half a dozen top class saves.
He even kept out a penalty kick when he fouled Atherstone striker Peter White. White
took the spot kick but Woods guessed correctly and dived to his left to save.
United hit the woodwork three times as they swarmed around Cheslyn Hay's goal area.
Mark Albrighton cracked a shot against the upright in the 6th minute from Lee
Middleton's through pass. In the second half Leon Kelly headed Middleton's centre against
the post and Kevin Elkins crashed a 25 yards shot against the crossbar.
Kim Green headed Atherstone in front in the 10th minute and then he increased the lead
in the 28th minute.
Paul Miller headed home for Cheslyn Hay from a defensive error early in the second
half, but United continued to dominate the game and were comfortable winners.
