Warwickshire are facing an
innings defeat after Nottinghamshire’s openers spent yesterday
making history at Edgbaston.
Darren Bicknell and Guy Welton
scored 406 for the visiting team without losing their wicket in more
than 130 overs.
The declaration was made when
Welton, who scored his maiden county century, reached 200. Bicknell
was just behind on 180.
Warwickshire now have to
survive today’s play of the Division Two PPP Healthcare championship
game to avoid a drubbing, having only made 110 in their first innings.
By the close of play yesterday
they were 82 for 2.
Among the records set by
Bicknell and Welton yesterday was the highest first wicket partnership
at Edgbaston.
They
also passed the highest partnership for Nottinghamshire for any wicket
(the previous top score being set over 100 years ago), the highest
unbroken first-wicket stand in the County Championship and the highest
partnership for any wicket between Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire.
