Giddins Grabs Five As Zimbabwe Crumble
Warwickshire
fast bowler Ed Giddins celebrated his return to the England fray with
five wickets in the first test against Zimbabwe at Lord’s.
A
fitful performance by Zimbabwe’s batsmen saw the visiting side
collapse to 83 all out in their Test debut at the home of cricket.
Giddins,
who was overlooked for the tour of South Africa, justified his recall
as he cut through the middle order and tail.
Coming
on as the second-change bowler he took five wickets for just 15 runs
in seven overs.
Giddins
took the crucial wickets of Andy Flower and Neil Johnson, who hit a
century on this ground in last year’s World Cup.
He
also snared Guy Whittall, Bryan Strang and vice captain Heath Streak.
The
other Warwickshire player to win a recall, Nick Knight took an
excellent catch at slip to dismiss Murray Goodwin.
Mark
Ramprakash was preferred to open the batting with Mike Atherton, and
Knight is pencilled in to go at number six.
Ramprakash,
also brought back after being dropped for the winter tour of South
Africa, made 15 before Heath Streak trapped him LBW.
