Potential
Crusaders saviour Marvin Harrison treated the Crusaders fans to
a marvellous time as he stole the limelight on his debut.
The
6ft 6ins power forward has now been singed for the rest of the
season to plug the gap left by Adam Stevens and Todd Sands, who
returned to America.
Harrison
was out to impress Donaldson, his teammates and the Bupa Crusaders supporters, who were out in force to
witness his debut in a friendly against Birmingham Aces.
He
did just that, scoring 32 points and having over ten rebounds, a
number of blocked shots and three showcase dunks that brought
the house down.
He
is being compared to former Crusader power forward Matt
Donaldson when he was at the peak of his powers.
Harrison
made one play that will live in the minds of all the people who
were at the game. He picked up the ball, dribbled the length of
the court and jumped some 5 feet away, gliding over two would-be
defenders to dunk the ball.
The
fans and his new teammates rose to their feet to give each other
hand clapping high fives and cheers as they showed their
delight.
Coach
Dip Donaldson predicted that the crowd will grow and grow as the
Crusaders continue to win and play exciting basketball.
He
rested injured players Matt Collins, Dominic Davis and Manny
Sharland, giving fans a good look at 15-year-old sensation
Nicholas Pope as he started the game at point guard.
Eduard
Girbal showed what a great signing he is turning out to be and
Marvin Livington had his best game for the Crusaders this season
with 16 points. Alvin Scott is fit again, and played well with 9
points.
Captain
Derrick Pope, playing in a new position in order to make room
for Harrison, had 24 points in only 25 minutes of play. Collin
Rhooms played well off the beach for the Crusaders and that kept
the team’s fires going.
Donaldson
said:
"I
am pleased that we played well even though we were resting
three players who are normally starters.
“That
showed me what a great team we have and why I feel we will get
even better and have a great season.”
Crusaders
scorers: Scott 9, Girbal 11, Rhooms 12, Livingston 16, Pope 24,
Harrison 32.
Birmingham
Aces: Blake 5, Riley 9, Ahmed 12, Branch 14, Simms 28, Robinson
